Andy McCartney

Founder, Chairman

Andy’s no stranger to the world of entrepreneurialism, having founded and acted as CTO for his fair share of tech start-ups, including the award-winning JamPot Technologies. Andy then moved to Microsoft where he founded Microsoft Ventures UK launched in London, helping build successful global start-ups.

Paul Jenkinson

Founder, Director

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, Paul moved into corporate finance for five years and then became FD of a software company, floated it on PLUS and became interim Finance Director of an AIM quoted software company. In 2001, Paul set-up Jenson Solutions to provide Finance Director consultancy services.

Dr. John Charnley

Chief Technology Officer

John has almost 30 years of financial technology experience. He started as an accountant and corporate financier with Deloitte and moved on to roles at Deutsche Bank and the RBS group. John has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Imperial College London and has published several papers in machine learning and automated reasoning. 

Glenn McClements

General Manager

Glenn has over 18 years IT experience within startup, SME and corporate environments. Previously he has held roles within NYSE, as Head of R&D for NYSE Technologies, and Wombat Financial Software, focussing on exchange protocols and low latency software and hardware solutions for exchanges, tier 1 banks and hedge funds. Glenn is in charge of scaling the Belfast engineering team.

Andrew Webber

Chief Marketing Officer

Andrew was previously Director of Marketing at Microsoft managing a number of EMEA and UK teams. In his time there he won Gold, European and Platinum leadership awards and was recognised for global best practise in a number of Go To Market playbooks. Andrew was listed in the 100 most influential in the UK games industry.

Rob Parker

Senior Architect

Rob was the winner of the Microsoft Imagine Cup, one of the world's largest hackathons. He then founded Gloop Labs with Alex Bochenski, a startup building mobile apps and SDKs. The company raised a seed round and has built apps for large enterprise clients. Rob has a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Exeter.

Chris Fowler

Senior Developer

Chris Fowler is a Furniture Maker turned Software Developer. He has held research fellowships in intelligent transport systems and software architecture, and was Senior Research Engineer with Intel’s Open Innovation Lab, and Principal Engineer with Alert Logic (cyber security). He holds an MSc and PhD in Computer Science from Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Alex Bochenski

Product Manager / Data Protection Officer

Issam Abu Aisheh

Investment Manager

Issam has worked on the buy side in public equity, private equity and venture capital in the MENA Markets before deciding to venture into the diversified industries, specifically into retail, trade and real estate development. He holds a BSc in Economics from LSE and read an MBA at the University of Oxford right before joining Whitespace.

Steph Georgiou

Innovation and Communities Manager

Having worked with start-ups directly through third party accelerators and incubators at Microsoft, Steph has a real passion for start-ups success and connecting them with the right people. She then moved internally to work directly for the Microsoft Accelerator programme where she built the curriculum, helping them on their journey to success.

Thomas Bleicher

Senior Developer

Thomas has more than 15 years of experience with IT and systems engineering. After working for several years in the Cayman Islands he has returned to the UK to work with Whitespace. He has a masters in Architecture from the University of Technology in Braunschweig. 

Wesley Knowles

Operations Manager

Part of the original team that started the Microsoft Ventures London Accelerator program back in October 2013. Wesley took care of the day to day running of the ventures hub, programme as well as building of the curriculum and events calendar. When the opportunity arose to join Whitespace with Andy he jumped at the chance to be part of a new venture to disrupt the norm.

Russell Kerr

Lead UX Designer

Russell discovered a love for digital product design in his teens, and has since gained experience working with start-ups, digital agencies and global corporates across a myriad of industries. He has previously lead design projects for the Royal Institute of British Architects, Northumbria University in partnership with Microsoft and for Rapid7 in Cyber Security.

Frank Quinn

Senior Developer

Frank is a versatile software developer with extensive experience in most major programming languages and software stacks. He is the current maintainer of the OpenMAMA high performance market data API and has over a decade of experience in working with high performance computing for NYSE and Tier 1 investment banks.

Simon McFerran

Senior UX Engineer

Simon graduated from Ulster University in 2006 with a BSc. in Interactive Multimedia Design, since then he has worked in a number of industries including mobile eCommerce and cyber security, serving as a front end developer and UX engineer he maintains a keen focus on engineering delightful user experiences.

Chris Hibberd

Senior Machine Learning Researcher

Chris is a research scientist who worked in the NYSE Technologies research and development team before developing measurement and analysis instrumentation for a company in Northern Ireland. He has a Masters in Physics and a PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Ed Manson

UX Designer

Ed graduated from the University of Ulster in 2013 with first class honours in Interactive Multimedia Design. Working in digital agencies since graduating he has continued to craft his skillset, focusing on how product experiences are designed and optimised to help benefit both clients and end users.

Mark Elliot

Product Manager

Mark is an ex-banker and accountant (ICAEW), re-training as a web-developer over 5 years ago, and now specialises in financial technology and business growth. Mark worked with 100s of SMEs and corporates, before moving into working with startups and anything FinTech. Mark often enjoys Saturday night conversations around FX treasury functions and clearing systems shift into blockchain and distributed web.

Kelsey Bones

UX Designer

Kelsey has been working for the past two years as a user researcher and designer, fostering a love for understanding user needs and designing elegant and functional solutions to user problems. During this time she also attended university and graduated in 2018 with a first class honours degree in Interaction Design from the University of Ulster.

Conor McAfee

UX Engineer

Conor is a 2013 UU graduate with a BSc in Interactive Multimedia Design.  Since graduation, he worked on building an eCommerce product for 2 years before moving on to work for a Belfast digital agency where he worked on websites and React Native apps for a varied range of clients from public sector to a music group with over 1 billion views on YouTube.

Amit Sharma

Senior Software Engineer

Amit holds a first class honours BSc in Computing Science and has spent 3+ years in the cyber security sector developing large, complex, single-page applications from the ground up. He is a software engineer with a strong passion for building optimised user experiences across multiple platforms.

Sonam Gandhi

Apprentice

Sonam is the social and digital marketing apprentice. She studied Marketing at university for 2 years in Birmingham, joining Whitespace for 18 months to complete her apprenticeship qualification.
